Is it okay to take acne antibiotics when you have mononucleosis?

  • asked on Mon, 11 Jul, 2011
So I just came back positive with mononucleosis. I have been on solodyn (minocycline) for a while now though, and was wondering if I should stop taking them while I recover from mono. Does it distort the healing process at all? Just wondering what I should do...Thanks.
  • Frank replied on Mon, 11 Jul, 2011
it is fine. If you normally can only tolerate the minocycline when you take it with food, make sure you eat something with it.
  • SassyRx13 replied on Mon, 11 Jul, 2011
That is fine. Mononucleosis is a viral infection- antibiotics generally only deal with bacterial infections (which acne is). Just make sure you are resting enough and eating well- that's really all you can do for mono. I know it sucks =(, feel better!
